I have a very unique interview prepared for you today. For the first time on my podcast, my interviewee is on the autism spectrum. She is also a mother to two boys. Not only is she a mother with autism, but one of her sons is also diagnosed with severe autism.

Eileen’s diagnosis came just one year after her own son, Charlie, was diagnosed with severe autism. It was actually due to Charlie’s own symptoms and diagnoses that Eileen first considered that she might be somewhere on the spectrum and after hours of evaluation, she was diagnosed with high-functioning autism.

Eileen openly shares her story with me, and what it’s like to live with high-functioning autism. Tasks that I might not think twice about, like grocery shopping, have a huge impact on her. She also shares her experience of raising a nonverbal son with severe autism, and gives her thoughts on the autism community.

Eileen runs TheAutismCafe blog, and says that she can best connect with people through her writing and photography. She is a published author as well; her first book, All Across The Spectrum, was released in August.
