As a BCBA and an autism mom, I know what it’s like to be on both sides of the autism maze. Sometimes it’s hard for parents and professionals to understand and relate to each others situations. My interviewee today, Dr. Bridget Taylor, noticed early on in her career that to really get collaboration from the families she worked with, she needed to have compassion and empathy for their unique situations. Dr. Taylor is wealth of knowledge regarding interpersonal relationships and using compassionate care with families to enhance outcomes.

Along with being a board-certified behavior analyst and a licensed psychologist, Dr. Taylor is also the co-founder and CEO of the Alpine Learning Group, and senior clinical advisor for Rethink. She is also the current president of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.

In this interview, Dr. Taylor explains how growing up with her brother inspired her to work with people who have disabilities, and how she got the opportunity of a lifetime when she saw a flyer on a bulletin board and ended up working with the daughter of Catherine Maurice. She also talks about why behavior analysts may struggle with interpersonal skills and the ethics code, and what other challenges young behavior analysts may face – and how they are avoidable.
