I’m thrilled to welcome Steve Ward, my good friend, and colleague, to the Turn Autism Around podcast. As a result of working in the autism field as a Behavior Analyst for over two decades, Steve has gained a lot of helpful knowledge and experience and he’s here to share all of that with you. Today we’re talking about teaching kid swith autism games and leisure activities.

As a student in college, Steve was certain that he wanted to be involved in psychology at some level but he never expected for his passion to lead him to a career as a Behavior Analyst. He earned a degree in psychology and spent a lot of time working in the human services field; eventually, he stumbled upon a job in Florida that introduced him to ABA. After Steve picked up on the basics of ABA, he fell in love with and began to consume all things ABA.

While Steve is a very knowledgeable Behavior Analyst, he’s also an accomplished author. He’s authored five books, including one of my personal favorites, What You Need To Know About Motivation And Teaching Games: An In-Depth Analysis.

Steve is also the co-owner of his own business, Whole Child Consulting. He’s consulted for individuals, teams, groups, schools, and companies around the globe. He was also a consultant and lead behavior analyst for a center school for a period of time.

As you know very well, I push for parents and professionals to take care of themselves and seek any help they need. After two decades spent in the autism field, Steve has acquired his own self-care tips. Most importantly is to recognize the good and celebrate it; and also, to recognize that every person has their limit, and some things are simply out of our control… just learn to roll with the punches.

As Steve says, “We try not to beat ourselves up, recognize that we have limitations, and celebrate our successes.
