Jim Christy is an award-winning playwright and filmmaker but perhaps, more importantly, he is a husband and an autism dad.
We talk a lot about intensive ABA therapy and how you can be the biggest advocate for your child or clients, but what we don’t talk about very often is the strain that an autism diagnosis puts on a family; specifically, the parents who never even considered the possibility that their child would have autism.
I’ve invited Jim to share his fall into the autism world; to talk about the impact and the strain it’s had on him and his wife; and what measures they explored to ensure their son received the best ABA treatment. Jim shares the struggles of wanting the best for your child, but not knowing what the best is, and who to trust in such a trying time. He also talks about the flim he’s making, Love and Communication, which was inspired by his family’s autism journey.
